Come to Africa with us!

January 2024 Trip Info

Dates: December 21st- January 1st or December 26th – January 13th (with option to extend before or after)

Pricing: Est. $4,000 (incl. flights); price subject to change based on trip costs

So…what exactly is this trip?

Sharing Hope Africa typically runs one or two trips to Mozambique and/or Eswatini each year! We know how impactful – and honestly magical – a trip to Africa can be, and we want to provide world travelers with a way to experience Southern Africa and fall in love with it…the same way that we did!

On this trip, you’ll not only have the opportunity to go on safaris (land AND sea!) and be immersed in Swazi and Mozambican culture, but you’ll have the chance to make a meaningful impact and learn more about the world (and yourself, if we’re being honest). We’ll visit with our partner organizations (which are local!) and volunteer (so long as it’s not taking jobs from locals).

Your Role

Every person is equipped with a unique set of skills that only they can provide to help the cause. Of course there are the typical jobs on a service trip (i.e. doctors, nurses, engineers, etc.)…but, we also need volunteers with open minds who are ready to jump on any task! Open-minded people, creative thinkers and hard workers are essential components to every trip and we would love to have you join us on this adventure.

During this trip, we’ll be volunteering at Sharing Hope Preschool in Licilo, Mozambique, and Sharing Hope Farm in the Kingdom of Eswatini. We’re still finalizing what projects we’ll be specifically working on during our time there – more details to come!

On The Ground Logistics

  • Accommodation: Dependent on number of team members; likely a lodge in Praia de Bilene and Manzini
  • On-The-Ground Transportation: Vans (aka Sherpa’s / Kombi’s)
  •  Food:
    • Breakfast: Eggs, toast, yogurt, seasonal fruit
    • Lunch: PB&J sandwiches, seasonal fruits & chips
    • Dinner: Family style dinner; variation each night depending on availability of food
    • Food Allergies: Please ensure you note any food allergies in the interest / application form so our team can work with you to accommodate any needs

      Sponsorships / Fundraising

Many of our volunteers subsidized their trips through sponsorships. This is a very effective way to raise money either to subsidize you trip and/or raise money to help fund programs during your trip.

Additionally, we encourage ALL of our volunteers/adventurers to set a fundraising goal that will specifically be used for our volunteer projects. Once you apply/indicate you’re interested in the trip, our team will work with you to sort out the details!

Many volunteers fundraise through sponsorship letters; please let us know if you would like any examples / advice as to the best way to go about sponsorship letters.

Others raise funds through bake sales, church organizations, corporate sponsorships, local restaurant partnerships, 50/50 raffles with local groups / communities,  garage sales, etc.

We are very happy to help with more fundraising ideas / guidance, let us know at info@sharinghopeafrica.org. We are happy to help!

      FAQs

      1. Is it safe?

Both Eswatini and Mozambique are extremely safe; people are very happy to see us come and visit!

Our friends on the ground keep us updated on any situations that we see pop up in the news and we are happy to answer any questions / concerns via email, WhatsApp, or during the webinars.

      2. Is Sharing Hope Africa affiliated with a denomination?

SHA is a non-profit organization pending 501(c)3 approval. We are not affiliated with a specific denomination. We, as well as our local partners, believe that cross-religion collaboration, integration and acceptance is the core for a diverse group of individuals who wish to create a positive impact on rural and disadvantaged communities.

      3. Who will lead this trip?

Two of our committed volunteers and the leaders of Sharing Hope Africa, Jami and Sophia, will be leading this trip. Combined, they have been traveling to Southern Africa for over 17 years now. They have experience leading travel groups and are very excited to lead this one!

      4. Can I come as an individual?

Of course you can (some people say they even like it better)! You’ll find that people involved with our organization are very friendly and eager to make friends and share expierences. At the very least, the group leader will always be your friend!
